What is a cation A positively charged atom that has more protons than electrons.
What is a compound A substance composed of 2 or more elements chemically bonded.
What is coefficient Placed in front of a chemical symbol or formula. It tells us about how many atoms or molecules of substance or compound are involved in the reaction.
What is an electron A particle that has no significant mass, stay outside the nucleus, and has a negative charge.
What is an element A substance that cannot be broken down into simpler substances by chemical means. Made up of only one type of atom.
What is an ion An atom with an unequal number of protons and electrons.
What is the Law of Conservation of Mass Law that states matter can neither be created nor destroyed.
What is mass The amount of “stuff” in an object.
What is matter Anything that has mass and takes up space.
What is a molecule Made up of 2 or more atoms bonded together. The atoms can be the same or they can be different.
What is net charge Total charge of an atom; add all positive charges and subtract all negative charges.
What is a nuetron A particle in the nucleus of an atom that has no charge.
What is a reactant Substance that is present at the start of a chemical reaction.
What is a product A substance that is present at the end of a chemical reaction.
What is the periodic table of elements The periodic table is a system for arranging the chemical elements.
What is a proton A positively charged particle that stays in the very center (the nucleus) of the atom.
What is a subscript Numbers that come after and below a symbol. Subscripts tell you the of. atoms of that element.
