| polarity | Uneven distribution of electrical charge in a molecule. |
| transfer | Movement of matter or energy from one place to another. |
| energy | The ability to do work or cause change |
| atmosphere | The layer of gases surrounding Earth. |
| hydrosphere | All the water on Earth (liquid, solid, and gas). |
| climate | The long-term weather patterns of a region. |
| convection | Transfer of heat by the movement of fluids (liquids or gases). |
| freeze | To change from a liquid to a solid. |
| dissolve | To mix evenly into a liquid to form a solution. |
| specific heat capacity | The amount of energy needed to raise a substance’s temperature. |
| solid | Matter with a definite shape and volume. |
| liquid | Matter with a definite volume but no fixed shape. |
| gas | Matter with no definite shape or volume. |
| solvent | The substance being dissolved. |
| solute | The substance that does the dissolving. |
| solution | A mixture where a solute is evenly dissolved in a solvent. |
| surface tension | The force that makes the surface of a liquid act like a stretched skin. |
| kelvin scale | A temperature scale based on absolute zero. |
| absolute scale | A temperature scale that starts at absolute zero (Kelvin) |

| homogenous solution | A mixture with uniform composition throughout. |
| heterogenous solution | A mixture with visibly different parts. |
