RhoGAM is used due to what? What does it prevent? It is used so the rh negative mother does not develop antibodies to rh positive blood, jeopardizing the next pregnancy.
When is RhoGAM given? Given around 28 weeks gestation and within 3 days after delivery of infant
What is the risk to the mother and baby in rh incompatibility For the mom, future pregnancies can be viewed as a foreign body and miscarried. For risk to baby; jaundice.
When is a US usually taken? What are the types of US? Taken at 20 weeks, transvaginal or transabdominal. Can serve for early pregnancy ID and for fetal heartrate, rhythm, structure.
What is a NST? Measures fetal heart rate in response to movement.
Reactive NST HR increases 15 bpm for 15 seconds 2 times in a 20 minute period.
Nonreactive NST No accelerations
What is an amniocentesis? When is it taken? When should you call your doctor? An amniocentesis is a sample of amniotic fluid thats taken in the 2nd trimester. Call the doctor if you experience more than 6 cramps in an hour.
If the NST is nonreactive, what should be performed next? Biophysical profile including fetal breathing movements, gross body movements, fetal tone, and amniotic fluid volume. Scored out of 8, scored out of 10 if NST is included.
Contraction stress test is used if If baby found to have abnormality and you dont know if it can tolerate labor, you induce small contractions to see if the baby can tolerate it.
