| Counter example | A statement or example that shows a conjecture is false. |
| Cube root | One of 3 equal factors of a number. |
| Integers | Any number from the set (-4, -3. -2. -1, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4...) |
| Inverse operations | Pairs of operations that undo each other. |
| Irrational number | A set of numbers that cannot be expressed as a/b where both a and b are integers and b cannot equal 0. |
| Natural numbers | The set of numbers used for counting. |
| Perfect cube | A number whose cube root is an integer. |
| Perfect square | A number whose square root is a whole number. |
| Principle square root | The positive square root of a number. |
| Radical sign | The symbol used to indicate a positive square root. |
| Rational numbers | The set of numbers that can be written in the form a/b where both a and b are integers and b cannot equal 0. |
| Real number | The set of rational numbers together with a set of irrational numbers. |
| Repeating decimal | A decimal in which one or more digits repeat. |
| Square root | One of the two equal factors of a number. |
| Terminating decimal | A decimal with a repeating digit of 0. |
| Truncating | A process of approximating a decimal number by eliminating all decimal places past a certain point without rounding. |
| Whole numbers | Any non-negative integer. |
