Hypothalamus Brain / main organ, regulates other endocrine glands / controls posterior pituitary gland and anterior pituitary gland
pituitary gland marble sized gland @ base of brain / anterior: growth hormone, ACTH, thyroid stimulating, follicle stimulating, luteinizing hormone. Posterior: antidiuretic hormone oxytocin
Pineal gland Thalamus area of brain / secretes melatonin in response to darkness
thyroid gland front of throat/ secretes thyroxine (T4), triiodothyronine (T3), calcitonin
parathyroid gland throat, behind thyroid gland/ parathyroid hormone (PTH) it increases plasma calcium by stimulating bone breakdown and triggers intestines to absorb more calcium
thymus chest cavity/ secretes thymosin, growth of t cells, helps fight off tumors
adrenal glands on top of each kidney/ "fight or flight"/ adrenal cortex: glucorticoids, mineral corticoids and androgens / adrenal medulla : catecholamines : epinephrine, norepinephrine
pancreas abdomen , behind stomach/ BOTH ENDOCRINE n EXOCRINE, proucing digestive enzymes and hormones/ pancreatic cells produce glucagon n raise blood glucose, Beta cells release insulin to lower it
Gonnads / ovaries lower pelvis / sex hormones : estrogens and progesterone
Gonads/ testes 2 oval glands inside scrotum / testostorone and gamestes
