QuestionAnswer
Greenhous gasses Gases in the atmosphere that trap heat and warm Earth.
Greenhouse effects The natural process in which greenhouse gases absorb and re emit heat, keeping Earth warm enough for life.
Climate The long-term patterns of temperature and precipitation in a region.
Human Relating to people or human activities that affect the environment.
Absorption of heat The process of taking in thermal energy.
Atmospheric heating The warming of Earth’s atmosphere due to absorbed energy.
Water vapor A gas form of water and the most abundant greenhouse gas.
Corbon dioxide A greenhouse gas released by respiration, burning fossil fuels, and natural processes.
Methane A powerful greenhouse gas released from agriculture, landfills, and natural sources.
Nitrous oxide A greenhouse gas released from soil, fertilizers, and industrial activities.
Hydrochlorofluorocarbons Man-made gases once used in refrigerants that contribute to warming and ozone damage.
Hydrofluorocarbons Man-made greenhouse gases used in refrigerants that strongly trap heat.
Ozone A gas that absorbs harmful UV radiation in the upper atmosphere but can act as a greenhouse gas near Earth’s surface.
Burning fossil fuels The combustion of coal, oil, or natural gas that releases energy and greenhouse gases.
Refrigerant A substance used in cooling systems that can act as a greenhouse gas if released.
Respiration The process by which living organisms release carbon dioxide when using energy.
Natural forest fires Wildfires that release carbon dioxide and other gases into the atmosphere.
Emissions Gases or particles released into the air from natural or human sources.
Temperature A measure of how hot or cold something is.
Precipitation Water that falls from the atmosphere, such as rain, snow, sleet, or hail.
Agriculture practices Farming methods that can affect greenhouse gas emissions, such as livestock raising and fertilizer use.
