How can world events affect food choices During Covid 19 lockdowns many people had more time to cook from scratch and saw a reduction in income making them choose more economical choices,
How does culture affect food choices? A staple food is food that popular and plentiful in a country,so that could affect them culturally in their country they’d probably consume it more.
How does adversting and marketing affect food chpicss Food manufactures use marketing techniques to influence our food choices such as placing special offers on luxury items near checkouts,other brands use celebrity endorsements
What are sustainable foods Sustainable foods should be grown,processed bought and sold in a way that can be carried on into the future and does not have a negative affect on people or the environment
What is organic food. Orgianc food is food produced without artisan fertilizers or pesticides,the euro leaf symbol is on foods that meet these standards.
What is fairtrade? Farmers in developing countries being paid fair prices and work under good conditions.
What is a lactose vegetarian? They do not eat meat,fish,or poultry,
What is a vegan? Don’t est or use sny animal based products.
Name 3 ways I can create a sustainable kitchen? Use eco friendly and natural cleaning products free of toxic chemicals,be conscious of amount of energy being used such as not leaving fridge door open,limit food waste by using all parts of fruit and veg in cooking as much as possible.
What is at the top of the food pyramid? Foods high in fats,sugar and salt,you are not to eat these everyday
What is on the 5th floor of food pyramid? Fats,spreads and oils,to be eaten in small amounts.
What is on the fourth floor of food pyramid. Meat fish poultry eggs beans and nuts,2 servings per day
What is on the 3rd floor of food pyramid Milk,yogurt and cheese,3 servings a day
What is on the second floor of food pyramid. Whole meal breads,cereals,potatoes,pasta and rice,3-5 servings a day,
What is on the bottom of food pyramid,first floor? Veggies,salad and fruit, 5-7 servings per day.
What is the food pyramid? A tool that helps the general public to eat a balanced diet.
How is energy measures? Kilocalories (kcal) or kilojewels (kj)
What is oxidation? Oxygen is used to burn and break down food.
What is BMR The amount of energy our body needs on a daily basis to keep ourselves alive and functioning,even if u were on the couch all day like at rest, (basal metabolic rate)
What is energy balance? Energy balance is when energy input (calories) is equal to energy output (bmr,excersize,)
What are empty calorie foods? Foods that contain kilocalories and produce energy but provide few nutrients,sometimes none e,g chocolate and cakes.
What factors influence energy requirements Gender,climate,activity levels,pregnancy,age and size.
Explain why gender influences energy requirements. Males are generally bigger and have a higher muscle to fat eatio than females,and muscle needs more calories to function so they automatically need more calories per day then women
Explain why activity levels influences energy requirements People who are more active need more energy as more activity burns more energy so they need to balance it by more energy
Explain why pregnancy and breastfeeding influences energy requirements? A person needs more energy than normal if they are supporting a baby
What is the caloric energy requirement across ages? Baby=800 cal Toddler=1300 cals Child= 1-400-2000 cals Fem teen= 1,800-2000 Male teen=2,200-2-800 Fem adult=1800-2100 Male adult-2000-2,500 Pregnancy and breeastfeeding= 2,400-2,700kcal Elederyly female= 1,600-1,800 Elderly male- 2,000-2,300
