TermDefinition
Plot The series of events in the story
Expositions the introduction of character background information and setting
Rising action Are events leading up to the climax of the story
Falling action Are events directly following the climax of the story
Climax The most interesting part or turning point in the story
Resolution The conclusion of the story where all the loose ends are tied up
Conflict The problem or the struggle in the story
External conflict Is one that can be seen and involves a character struggling against an opposing farce; another character or obstacle
Internal conflict Occurs within the characters heart or mind
Setting The when, where, and environment of the story
Chronological The way in which events occur in real time
Foreshadowing Hints or clues the author gives about what will happen in the story
Flashback A scene or event from the past that interrupts the present story line
Flashforward A scene or event that jumps forward in time
Mood How the author makes the reader feel
Tone How the author feels
