| renewable energy | energy from a source that is replenished or replaced as fast as it is used |
| solar energy | energy from the sun |
| hydropower | energy created from dams or moving water that turns a turbine to create electricity |
| geothermal energy | energy made from the heat inside the Earth |
| nuclear energy | energy made from the fission or atoms of elements such as uranium |
| wind energy | energy made when the movement of air turns a turbine |
| biomass | burning of organic material to make energy |
| coal | the most abundant fossil fuel and it is made of at least 50% plant material |
| petroleum | liquid collected from rock layers that can be used to create fuel |
| natural gas | mostly methane gas that is burned to produce energy |
| fission | split larger atoms into smaller atoms while releasing energy |
| fusion | combining smaller atoms together to form larger atom |
