| Dynasty | a family of rulers who rule over a country for a long period of time |
| Empire | a group of countries or regions that are controlled by one ruler or one government |
| Golden age | a period of period of peace, prosperity, and cultural achievements |
| gynaeceum | rooms in a Greek house set aside for women |
| Krater | a large vase used to mix wine and water in Ancient Greece |
| Monarchy | a form of government with a king or queen at the head who inherits the position due to his/her family |
| Oligarchy | a small group of people having control of a country |
| Periodization | dividing a subject into historical eras for purposes of analysis and study |
| Republic | a country that is governed by elected representatives and by an elected leader (such as a president) rather than by an inherited king or queen |
