TermDefinition
Period The time between waves passing a fixed point.
Oscillation A repeated motion/vibration such as a pendulum
Frequency How many waves in a second. (Hz)
Wavelength The distance from a point on a wave to the equivalent point on the next wave. (m)
Wavespeed How quickly a wave is moving. (m/s)
Reflection When a wave bounces back off a surface.
Refraction When a wave changes direction as it passes into a new material.
Diffraction When a wave passes through a small gap and spreads out.
Interference When two waves overlap and either increase or cancel each other out.
Electromagnetic wave a self-propagating disturbance in electric and magnetic fields that carries energy through space at the speed of light, without needing a medium.
Mechanical wave, a self-propagating disturbance in solid, liquid or gas that transmits energy
Transverse wave, A wave which is moving in the same direction as the disturbance.
Longitudinal wave, A wave which is moving at 90 degrees to the disturbance.
Vacuum, A space with nothing in it.
Normal A line at 90 degrees to a surface.
Static Electricity, A build up of either negative or positive charge.
Electrostatic Field, A force originating from a charge that affects other charges close to it.
Magnetic Field, A force originating from an electrical current affects other magnets or can create an electrical current in a wire.
Electron, Negatively charged sub atomic particle
Proton, Positively charged sub atomic particle in the nucleus
Neutron Sub atomic particle with no charge.
Current, The movement of electrons in a wire. Measured in amps.
Series Circuit ,A circuit where all components are connected in a single loop
Parallel Circuit, A circuit where components are on multiple loops.
Voltage, The pushing force that pushes electrons around a circuit.
Resistance, The amount a material can slow electricity down in a circuit.
Ammeter, A device for measuring current
Voltmeter, A device for measuring voltage
Multimeter A device that can measure current, voltage and resistance depending on its setup.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.

To see how well you know the information, try the Quiz or Test activity.
