| Term | Definition |

| sustainability | managing the use and consumption of natural resources in a way which allows them to replenish themselves over time and be enjoyed by people in the future |
| mitigation | reducing the impact or severity of an action |
| deforestation | removing trees and shrubbery from an area |
| conservation | protecting areas for species so they can reproduce and live , negative human impact or preserving resources for future use |
| bycatch | refers to the extra fish caught, during net fishing, that are not the desired species of fish |
| reduce | use less of something to create less waste |
| reuse | use items again instead of throwing them away |
| recycle | turning old materials into new objects instead of them going to the landfill |
| overfishing | when too many fish are caught not leaving enough to grow and reproduce |
| overconsumption | when people use natural resources faster than it can be replenished |
| depletion | the gradual use or reduction of natural resources until there is very little or none left |
| public transportation | transportation including bus, train, or subway |
