Circulatory & Heart

PHS Circulatory & Heart Review Sheet January 22, 2026

QuestionAnswer
The circuit of vessels that carries blood to and from the lungs for gas exchange is designated as Pulmonary vessels/circulation
Exchanges between the blood and cells take place through the Capillaries
Since their function is to carry blood from the heart's pumping chambers, the blood vessels that have the thickest wall are the Arteries
The innermost layer of the artery is composed of the Endothelium (smooth, elastic layer)
The largest artery in the body is divided into four regions. This vessel is the Aorta
The four regions of the aorta Ascending aorta, Aortic arch, Thoracic aorta, Abdominal arch
The ascending aorta has two branches that supply the heart muscle. These arteries are called the Left and Right Coronary Arteries
Supplying the head and neck on each side is an artery named the Right Common Carotid Artery
Small arteries are called Arterioles
The vessels that receive blood from the capillaries are the Venules
The function of venules To collect deoxygenated blood and waste from capillary beds and then merge to form larger veins, returning blood to the heart
A force that drives materials out of the capillaries is Blood Pressure (Capillary Hydrostatic Pressure)
Blood is prevented from moving backward in the veins by the Valves
Supplying blood to the left side of the head and neck is the Left Common Carotid Artery
Oxygenated blood is carried to the liver by the Hepatic Artery
The diaphragm is supplied by a right and left Phrenic Artery
The artery that is a continuation of the axillary artery is called the Brachial artery
What does the brachial artery divide in two to make The radial and ulnar arteries
Blood supply to the right upper extremities is through the Right Subclavian Artery
The branches of the abdominal aorta that supply the kidneys are Renal Arteries
The abdominal aorta finally divides into two... Right and Left Common Iliac Arteries
Supply to the abdominal wall is through the
