Pure substance & mix

QuestionAnswer
What is a pure substance Substances that have identical particals and cannot be separated into other materials
Mixture A mixture is matter that is made up of two or more different substances that have not been chemically bonded
Two examples of pure substances and mixture Gold and silver= substances Cereal and lemon juice =mixtures
Element Pure substances that are only made up of one atom
Compound Made up of two or more atoms/elements
Compounds and elements different? Elements are only made up of one atom and compounds are made with two or more atoms
Mechanical mixture Mixture made up of two or more substances that are very distinguishable
Why is it also called heterogeneous Because Herero means more than one thing you can see
Give two example of heterogeneous mixtures Cereal and trail mix
What is a solution Mixtures you hat are mad of two or more substances that have not been chemically combined
Why are solutions considered homogeneous They are call homogeneous because you can’t see all the substances
Give three example of homogeneous mixtures Lemon juice, salt water, Air
What is a solute in a solution The substance that dissolves in the solution
What is the solvent Substance doing the dissolving
In a mixture of salt and water identify the soulte and solvent Salt is the solute because it’s being dissolved by the solvent aka the water cause it’s dissolving the salt
What does saturated solution mean When it containing as much of the solute as it can possible dissolve at as given temperature
What happens when a solution becomes saturated It can’t dissolve anymore
Sugar is made of carbon hydrogen and oxygen atoms explain why sugar is classified as Compound not an element Because an element is only made up of one atom but Compounds are multiple atoms and sugar is made of multiple atoms so it’s a compound
Granola and ice tea look very different as mixtures explain why one is a mechanical mixture and one is a solution using particle in your explaintion Granola is a mechanical mixture because you can see the particles and ice tea is a solution because you can’t see all the particles
A student keeps adding sugar to their hot tea. Eventually No more sugar dissolve what type of solution has the tea become A saturated solution because no more can dissolve
How would heating up the tea more effect how much sugar can dissolve Heating up the tea would make it dissolve quicker because the particles are moving faster because there hot
In at mixture of kool-aid powder and water which one is the solute and which is the solvent explain why?
The solute is the kool aid powder because it’s being dissolved by the water and the water is the solvent because it’s dissolving the kool aid powder
Trail mix Mechanical mixture
Oxygen gas Compound
Lemonade Solution
Carbon dioxide Element
