| Claim | the authors main point |
| evidence | what the author uses to support their claim |
| counterclaim | the opposite viewpoint of the author's claim |
| rebuttal | when the author responds directly to the counterclaim |
| credibility | the author is able to be believed and trusted |
| ethos | emphasizes the speakers credibility and authority. authority conveys trustworthiness, expertise, shared values,etc |
| pathos | appeals to the audience's emotions. pathos is used to influence the audience to a desired belief or action |
| logos | appeals to the audience's logic, or reason. logos uses any form to influence an audience |
