argument and claim

TermDefinition
argument when the author wants to convince you of their position.
claims the author's main point.
relevant evidence what the author uses to support their claim.
counterclaim the opposing viewpoints of the author's claim.
rebuttal when the author responds directly to the counterclaim.
credible the author is able to be believed and trusted.
Ethos emphasizes the speakers credibility and authority, conveys trustworthiness expertise, values, etc.
pathos appeals to the audience's emotions, uses emotion to influence an audience to believe or do something.
logos appeals to the audience's logic or reason, it uses proof to influence an audience.
