| Term | Definition |

| Argument | When the author wants to convince you of their position. They are either for or against a certain issue or topic. |
| Claim | The author's main point, the author belives to be true. |
| Ethos | emphasizes the speaker's authonty and credibility, the author believes to be true. |
| Pathos | Appeals to the audience emotions, it is used to influence an audience to believe or do something. |
| Logos | Appeals to the audience's logic or reason, it uses proof to influence an audience. |
| Relevant evidence | What the author uses to support their claim |
| Counterclaim | The opposing viewpoint of the author's claim |
| Rebuttal | When the author responds directly to the counterclaim. |
| Credible | The author is able to be believed and trusted. |
