| Term | Definition |

| Claim | The author’s main point. |
| Counterclaim | The opposite viewpoint of the author’s claim. |
| Rebuttal | When the author responds directly to the counterclaim. |
| Credible | The author is able to be believed and trusted. |
| Relevant Evidence | What the author uses to support their claim. |
| Argument | When the author wants to convince you of their position. |
| Ethos | Emphasizes the speaker's credibility and authority. It conveys trust, worthiness, expertise, values,etc. |
| Pathos | Appeals to the audience's emotions. It is used to influence an audience to believe or do. |
| Logos | Appeals to the audience's logic or reason. Uses proof to influence an audience. |
