| Tissues (def) | a group of similar cells working together to perform a specific function; the building blocks of organs |
| Epithelial tissues (def) | covers and protects body surfaces; protection, secretion, filtration |
| Connective tissues (def) | loose, dense, adipose, cartilage, bone, and blood; protect, binds, connects structures, and stores energy |
| Muscle tissues (def) | skeletal, smooth, cardiac; responsible for movement |
| Nervous tissue (def) | sends and processes signals, made of neurons |
| Serous membrane | line body cavities inside the body, cells create a watery "serous" fluid, for lubrication |
| Mucous membrane | line body cavities with openings to outside the body, made of goblet cells that secrete mucous |
| Cutaneous membrane | aka the skin |
| Synovial membrane | lines joints |
| Epithelial | tightly packed cells, no blood supply, regenerates quickly |
| Connective | has a matrix, ranges from liquid to solid |
| Muscle | contracts to create movement |
| Nervous | communicates through electrical and chemical signals |
