Wood by-Products Consist of materials such as corrugated fiberboard, particleboard, pressed board, and plywood.
Ferrous Metal Is any metal formed from iron (steel and stainless steel).
Non-Ferrous Describes any metal that is not formed from iron.
Outer Burial Container Is defined as any container designed for placement in a grave to surround and safeguard a casket or urn, including burial vaults, grave boxes, and grave liners.
Wood Burial Caskets Are more appropriate for cremation than their metal counterparts.
Rental Caskets Include a beautiful exterior casket shell with a removable insert.
Cremation Caskets Are uniquely designed for cremation.
Urn A receptacle designed to permanently encase the cremated remains, can take many forms, and be constructed using numerous materials.
Temporary Container A receptacle for cremated remains, usually made of cardboard, plastic, or similar material, designed to hold the cremated remains until an urn or other permanent container is acquired.
Permanent Containers A container that will permanently house the cremated remains, regardless of whether the remains will be interred, entombed, stored in a home, or other option for final disposition.
Full-Size Display Actual size of the products purchased and used during the funeral.
Fractional Display Only portions of caskets (1/2, 1/4, or 1/8, for example) presented in the selection room.
Miniature Display Replicas of burial vaults that are only a fraction of the size of a real, full-size burial vault.
Three traditional methods of display are? Product catalogs (printed), computer-generated, and photographic displays.
Verification of Selections When families have made merchandise decisions, these decisions must be verified immediately and documented in the appropriate funeral home record to ensure delivery of the correct merchandise.
Required Federal & State Disclosures Once merchandise selections have been made and the information has been verified and documented, funeral service professionals must communicate any required Federal and State disclosures.
Complete the Statement of Funeral Goods and Services Selected Is the contract between the family and the funeral home.
Verify Method of Payment Some of the most common payment methods for funeral service arrangements include insurance assignment, pre-need funeral proceeds, checks, credit cards, cash, and extending credit to clients.
Code of Ethics A formal set of statements that establish a basic expectation of behavior within the organization, institution, or personally for members of these organizations.
The National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA) Offers a very detailed and specific Code of Professional Conduct including obligations to the family, the care of the decedent, the public, the government, and to NFDA.
Ethical Practices To make clear and permanent records and archive these in a safe place in the funeral home, detailing the exact services, merchandise and any other details expressed by the client for the services to be rendered at the time of death.
Steel Is a metal alloy consisting mainly of iron and carbon; used in caskets, it is low in carbon, which keeps it soft and malleable.
Stainless Steel Is a metal alloy manufactured with steel, chromium, and sometimes nickel, which is used in casket construction and noted for its ability to resist rust.
Copper Is a malleable, ductile, metallic element having a characteristic reddish-brown color. Copper may be used in the construction of caskets, urns, and vaults due to its non-corrosive qualities.
Bronze Is a metal alloy consisting of 90% copper with tin and sometimes zinc comprising the other 10%. Typically, commercial bronze is 90% copper and 10% zinc.
Cap Panel The focal point of the interior which fills the inside of the crown, sometimes bordered by the cove (roll) and may be referred to as the panel.
Full Couch A casket in which the rim (ogee), crown, and pies are formed as one unit and which opens as one piece.
Half Couch A cap opening style in which the rim (ogee), crown, and pies are formed with a transverse cut in the cap, thereby forming a two-piece lid for the casket.
Head Panel A component part of the casket interior which is inside the head portion of the cap; no distinction is made between the head panel and the foot panel in full couch caskets.
Foot Panel A component part of the casket interior, which is inside the foot cap.
Inner Panels Functional or ornamental covering for the foot end of a full couch casket; may be available for the head end in some full couch models.
Transfer Container An enclosure used for the protection of human remains during transportation.
Air Tray A transfer container consisting of a wooden tray with a cardboard covering for the casket.
Wood Box A transfer case made entirely of wood.
Ziegler Case/Metal Case A gasketed container, which can be used as an insert in a casket or as a separate shipping container.
Combination Case (Combo Case) A transfer container for uncasketed human remains consisting of a particleboard tray with a cardboard cover.
Combination Units Any product designed or intended to be used together as both a casket and as a permanent burial receptacle.
Market Analysis Involves collecting and appraising market demographics such as mean or median age, income, and primary economic base.
Sales History To discover any trends established over time; this knowledge will assist management in developing a robust and meaningful merchandising program.
