| axes | the vertical and horizontal lines on a coordinate plane |
| coefficient | a number that is multiplied by a variable(s), 2 in 2x |
| constant | a fixed value that does not appear with a variable(s) the y in y=2x+4 |
| coordinate plane | a two-dimensional plane on which to plot points and lines |
| dependent variable | the variable in an equation or rule which represents the output value, y (this value depends on what is happening on the x axis) |
| independent variable | the variable in an equation or rule which represents the input value, x (this variable is independent of itself) |
| intersecting lines | lines that meet or cross at a point |
| multiplicative relationship | when a constant value, that is not equal to zero, is multiplied by an input value, x to determine the output value, y (y = ax) |
| origin | the starting point in locating points on a coordinate plane (0,0) |
| quadrants | any of the four areas created by dividing a plane with an x-axis and y-axis |
| rational numbers | the set of numbers that can be expressed as a fraction , a over b, including integers. The set is represented by the symbol Q. |
