mesopotamia quiz

What does Mesopotamia mean in greek? Land Between Rivers.
What two rivers are in Mesopotamia? The Tigris and Euphrates rivers.
Why was it called the Fertile Crescent? Because It had Fertile mud and was shaped like a Crescent.
Why would they settle near rivers. So they could get easy access to water.
How did they deal with floods. They used the irrigation system.
What forms of irrigation did they use and what did they do. They used Canals and dykes which blocked the water with walls so the water couldn't flood there crops.
What were the different social classes? Who were in each class? 1: Servants, labours, and peasants. 2: Craftsmen. 3: Officials, scribes and minor priests. 4: High Priests and Nobles. 5: Kings.
What jobs did most people have? Farmers, Craftsmen, and Traders.
What was there religion like? They had many gods they worshiped.
What building homered the Gods? Ziggurats.
What were the 6 major inventions from Mesopotamia. Cuneiform, Irrigation, transportation , plows, Calendars, Math and Science.
What impact did these inventions have on people. It made there day to day life easier.
What was the writing system called? Cuneiform
Why was the writing system developed? So people could keep records of time.
What did scribes do? Keep records.
What was the epic of Gilgamesh A story of a king who went from cruel to kind and it tells about his life a friends.
Who was Sargon. The king of the Akkadians.
What was significant about the Sargon empire. It was the first empire
Who was Hammurabi The King of Babylon.
What was the code of Hammurabi and why was it important? It was a set of laws that were equal for everyone.
Where was empires capital? Babylon
What was Hammurabi known for? His collection of laws.
What advanced technology did the Assyrians have? Iron Weapons.
What was the Assyrian empires capital. Nineveh
Where was the first library located? In Nineveh
Who was the king of the Chaldeans? Nebuchadnezzar
What famous ancient wonder did he create for his wife? The Hanging Gardens
What was the capital city of the Chaldeans and why was it important. The capital was Babylon and it was the richest city.
