TermDefinition
Number A value used to count, measure or label
Rational Number A number that can be written as a fraction of integers.
Irrational Number A number with a decimal that never repeats or ends.
Decimal expansion The decimal representation of a number.
Approximation A value close to the exact answer
Expression A mathematical phrase without an equals sign.
Exponent A number showing repeated multiplication
Power A value written using a base and expnent
Equation A mathematical statement with an equals sign
Variable A symbol representing a value
Coefficient A number multiplying a variable
Term A single number or variable, or product of both
Solution A value that makes an equation or inequality true
System of equations Two or more equations with the same variables
Inequality A comparison using <. >, ≤, or ≥
Function A rule that assigns each input exactly one output
Input The independent value in a function
Output The dependent value in a function
Rate of change How one quantity increases or decreases compared to another
Initial value The starting amount in a function
Transformation A movement or change to a figure
Translation A slide of a figure
Rotation A turn of a figure
Reflection A flip of a figure
Dilation A resizing of a figure
Scale factor The number that grows or shrinks a figure
Angel The pace between two rays
Triangle A three sided polygon
Right triangle A triangle with a 90 angle
Coordinate plane A grid with an x and a y axis
Distance Length between two points
Pythagorean Theorem The relationship a^2 + b^2 - c^2
Converse A reversed statement of a theorem
Cylinder A 3D shape with two circular bases
Cone A 3D shape with one circular base and a point
