Pulse Oximeter a small device that measures oxygen level and pulse
Oxygen a gas the body needs to make energy
Carbon Dioxide a waste gas the body breathes out
Hemoglobin a protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen
Erythrocytes red blood cells
Blood Pressure the force of blood pushing against artery walls
Sphygmomanometer a tool used to measure blood pressure
Systole / Systolic when the heart contracts and pumps blood
Diastole / Diastolic when the heart relaxes between beats
mmHg the unit used to measure blood pressure
Korotkoff Sounds sounds heard when taking blood pressure
Brachial Artery the artery in the upper arm
Hypertension high blood pressure
Hypotension low blood pressure
Stethoscope a tool used to listen to heart and lung sounds
Electrocardiogram a test that records heart activity
Body Mass Index (BMI) a number that compares height and weight
