linear equation an equation whose graph is a line
variable a letter or term that represents an unknown value or unknown quantity
solution of a linear equation an ordered pair (x, y) that makes an equation true
slope the value of a ratio of the change in y (the rise) to the change in x (the run) between any 2 points on the line
x-intercept the x-coordinate of the point where a line crosses the x-axis
y-intercept the y-coordinate of the point where a line crosses the y-axis
slope-intercept a linear equation written in the form y = mx + b
input x-values, independent variable
output y-values, dependent variable
linear function a function whose graph is a non-vertical line
nonlinear function a function whose graph is not a line
domain the set of all possible input values of a function
range the set of all possible output values of a function
