| natural numbers | the set of numbers used for counting |
| perfect cube | a number whose cube root is an integer . 27 is a perfect cube because its cube root is 3 |
| perfect square | a number whose square root is a whole number. 25 is a perfect square because its square root is 5 |
| principal square root | the positive square root of a number |
| radical sign | the symbol used to indicate a positive square root |
| real number | the set of numbers of rational numbers together with the set of irrational numbers |
| square root | 1 of the 2 equal factors of a number. if a squared = b, then a is the square root of b |
| truncating | a process of approximating a decimal number by eleminating all decimal places past a certiant point without rounding. |
