Prereferral interventionist students receive evidence based instruction before they are evaluated for special education
Multidisciplinary Team Identify alternative evidence based educational strategies for the student before making a referral for special education evaluation
Response to intervention (RTI) a students change or lack of change, in academic performance or behavior as a result of instruction
Screening Instruments identifies students for whom additional progress monitoring and tier 2 instruction required, who will fail
Progress Monitoring quick easy assessments at regular intervals to provide information on whether a student is learning as expected
Curriculum-based Measurement (CBM) Students response to their usual instructional materials; entails direct and frequent samples of performance form the students curriculum
Early Intervening Services interagency financing structures for students in kindergarten through grade 12, who are not currently identified as needing special education or related services but who needs academic and behavior support to succeed in education
Individualized Education Program (IEP) Ensuring students receive the instruction needed to succeed as much as possible
Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP) describes the services that the child will receive and family is involved
Transition Plans Coordinated set of outcome oriented activities that promote movement from school to postsecondary education, vocational training, integrated employment, continuing adult education, adult services, independent living, or community participation
Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) The student should be separated from non disabled classmates and form home, family, and community as little as possible
Collaborative Consultation Special education teacher or psychologist acts as an expert who provides advice to the general education teacher
Cooperative Learning Instructional strategy that many proponents of inclusion believe is an effective way to integrate students with disabilities into groups of non disabled peers
Peer-mediated Instruction Research based instructional strategy to enhance the integration of students with disabilities
Peer Tutoring Peer mediated instruction
Peer Confederates managing behavior problems or any arrangement in which teachers deliberately recruit the train peers to help teach an academic or social skill to a classmate
Classwide Peer Tutoring (CWPT) The whole class is involved, all students in general education classroom routinely engage in peer tutoring for particular subject matter, such as reading or math
Partial Participation Instructional strategy entails having students with disabilities participate, on a reduced basis, in virtually all activities experienced by all students in the general education classroom
Modification Take the form of amended materials or assignments and differ from changes in curricula or instructional strategies
Accommodations Changes in instruction that don't significantly change the content or conceptual difficulty level of curriculum
Adaptations Involve significant modifications of instruction than accommodations
Tiered Assignments Teachers provide choices of varying difficulty for assignments on a single topic
Universal Design, Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Making learning accessible to more students in inclusionary programs
Cochlear Implantations Artificial inner ears, , allows deaf children to hear
