Colonel A high ranking military official
Formation An arrangement of people or things acting as one unit
Prime Minister The head of the government and some countries
Alliance In agreement between two nations to help each other in war time
Treaty A formal agreement between two or more group groups, especially countries
Proclamation An important official announcement that is usually made to the public
Salutary neglect An unofficial British policy of not enforcing regulations in the colonies
Tax Money that people are required to pay to support the workings of the government
Rights of Englishmen Traditional legal rights that all English subjects in England were guaranteed
Burgess A representative to the legislature in colonial Virginia or Maryland
Quarter To give temporary lodging and meals to soldiers
Trial by jury A case of law decided by a group of one’s fellow citizens
Intolerable Unbearable
Massacre The violent killing of defenseless people
Militia A group of armed citizens prepared for military service at any time
Self determination The ability of people in a country to decide their own government
Mercenary A soldier paid to fight for a country or cause they are not native to or in support of
Encrypted Coded or concealed
Treason A disloyal act against one’s country, often by helping an enemy
