epithelial tissue tissue that covers body surfaces and lines body cavities
dendrite fibers that branch out from a neuron; receive electrochemical impulses from other neurons and conduct them toward the cell body
connective tissue tissue that binds and supports body parts
tissue group of specialized cells that work together to perform a common function
homeostasis process through which organisms strive to maintain a stable internal state despite constantly changing conditions
digestion the process of mechanically and chemically breaking down food to enable absorption of nutrients
axon part of neuron that extends from the cell body; relays nerve impulses to other neurons
neuron a specialized cell with 3 parts that transfers nerve impulses to the brain
plasma straw-colored solution of water, salts, and enzymes that red and white blood cells and platelets are suspended in; liquid connective tissue that links all the cells of the body
respiration the process of supplying cells with oxygen and eliminating surplus carbon dioxide; involves the lungs and related organs
axial skeleton region of the skeleton including the cranium, vertebrae of the neck and backbone, the sternum and the ribs; provides support and protection for the whole body
adipose tissue body fat; tissue that stores energy and protects the organs from injury
appendicular skeleton region of the skeleton composed of bones of the upper and lower limbs, shoulders, and hips
muscle tissue tissue that moves the body and it parts
myelin white fatty substance that insulates axons, allows nerve impulses to move fast
organ system a group of organs that work together to accomplish essential bodily functions
nervous tissue tissue that receives stimuli and conducts nerve impulses

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
