Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor (SSRI) Inhibits serotonin reuptake
Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor Use depression bipolar disorder OCD ( Obsessive compulsive disorder)
Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor meds Fluoxeline (Prozac, sarafem ) Paroxetine ( Paxil Paxil CR) Sertraline ( Zoloft)
Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor side effect Sexual dysfunction, Nausea, Headache, insomnia weight gain, Increased risk of suicide, Serotonin, syndrome ( Agitation, confusion, disorientation, )
Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors ( MAO's) action An enzyme which breaks down NE and cerotonin; NAOI 's block the enzyme
Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors use Depression, that has not responded to SSRI or Tricyclic antidepressant ; Used for Atypical depression and OCD
Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors Side effect CNS situmlation ( Anxiety insomnia, agitation, mania ) Orhostatic , hypertesion, hypertensive crisis if individuals consume hight levels of tyramine in their diet.
