Density.

QuestionAnswer
What is density? Density describes how tightly matter is compacted together in a substance.
Can objects with the same volum have a different mass? Yes,becauss the density/number of particles inside the substance is different.
What has the greatest density? Solids have the greatest density because all the particles are packed closely together, maximising the number of particles in one area.
What has high but not greatest density? Liquids have high densities because particles are close together
What has the lowest densities. Gases because the particles are spread out with a lot of space between them meaning fewer particles inside one area.
How do you calculate density? To calculate density you need to divide mass by volume of the object.( units are g/cm cubed)
How do you calculate mass? Density x volume.
How do you calculate volume. Mass divided by density.
Describe the steps of calculating density. 1 use a balance/ scale to measure mass. 2 calculate volume 3 use density formula to find density 4 include units.
Why would an object float? An object will float if it less dense than the liquid it is placed in
Why would the object sink? The object will sink if it is more dense than the liquid it is placed in.
Why does ice float in water? Water expands when it freezes, the expansion increases the volume and decreases the density, making ice less dense than water.
Why do ships float in water? The metal parts of the ship are more dense than water, but the inside of the ship is hollow so the air reduces the density of the ship, making the ship less dense than water.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
