Terminology

Chapter 1 - A & P Lecture

QuestionAnswer
Anatomical Position: body erect, face forward, feet together, palms face forward
Other Body Positions: Supine: lying face upward Prone: lying face downward
Directional Terms: - superior (cephalic) v inferior (caudal) - medial v lateral - proximal v distal - superficial v deep - anterior (ventral) v posterior (dorsal)
superior (cephalic) v inferior (caudal) toward or away from the head
medial v lateral relative to the midline
proximal v distal used to describe linear structures
superficial v deep relative to the surface of the body
anterior (ventral) v posterior (dorsal) anterior is forward, posterior is toward the back
