| Descriptive Stats | Procedures used to summarize & describe important characteristics of a set of measurements |
| Inferential Stats | Procedures used to make inferences about population from info contained in a SAMPLE drawn from population |
| Population | Complete collection of all elements being studied |
| Sample | Subcollection of elements drawn from population |
| Parameter | Numerical measurements describing some characteristics of a population |
| Statistic | Numerical measurement describing some characteristics of a sample |
| Quantitative Data | Consists of NUMBERS representing measurements |
| Qualitative Data | Can be separated into different categories that are distinguished by some nonnumeric characteristics |
| Variable | Characteristics that can assume different values |
| Random variables | Variables whose values are determined by chance |
| Discrete Data | Results with finite number of possible values |
| Continuous Data | Result with infinitely many possible values |
| Random Sample | Members of population selected in a random way |
| Sampling Error | Difference between sample results & true population results |
