screening instruments identifies those students at an increased risk of school failure
progress monitoring the ongoing, data-driven process of regularly assessing student performance to see if they are meeting goals, evaluating if teaching strategies are working, and making timely adjustments to instruction or interventions
curriculum-based measurement (CBM) a method for teachers to quickly and regularly assess student progress in core subjects like reading, math, and writing using brief, standardized probes tied directly to classroom curriculum
early intervening services supports for babies and toddlers (birth to age 3) with developmental delays or disabilities, helping them learn crucial skills like walking, talking, and playing, and also support families
individualized education program (IEP) is a customized, legal written plan for K-12 public school students with disabilities, created by a team (parents, teachers, etc.) to outline specific goals, special education services, and supports needed for them to succeed in school
individualized family service plan describes the services that the child will receive
transition plans coordinated set of outcome activities that promote movement from school to post-secondary school, vocational training, integrated employment.
supported employment a service helping individuals with significant disabilities find and keep jobs, focusing on their strengths, interests, and goals through long-term, on-the-job coaching, skills training, and support from employer.
least restrictive environment means that student should be separated from nondisabled classmates, home, family, and the community as little as possible.
collaborative consultation a special ed or phycologist consults with a gen ed teacher to give advice to the gen ed teacher.
co-teaching two teachers in one classroom, one teacher specializes in special ed to help those students in the gen ed classroom.
cooperative learning a teaching method where small, diverse groups of students work together to achieve common academic goals
pre-meditated instruction is an educational strategy where students are systematically trained to serve as instructors or facilitators to help their classmates learn academic, behavioral, or social skills.
peer tutoring/peer confederates which has their peers assist with assignments as well as using them to help manage behaviors.
classwide peer tutoring all students in the gen ed classroom engage in peer tutoring for particular subject matter, such as reading or math.
partial participation having students with disabilities engage on a reduced basis
accommodations include changes in instruction that don't significantly change the content or conceptual difficulty level of the curriculum.
modifications usually are amended materials or assignments and differ from changes in curricula or instructional strategies
tiered assignments teachers provide choices of varying difficulty of an an assignment on a single topic.
