Jamestown The first permanent English settlement in the new world. Led by Captain John Smith and Pocahontas through the starving time. It was started in 1607.

Mayflower compact Set up by the pilgrims when they reached Plymouth. Rather than Virginia they created this document to set up a fair government for their new Colony.. Allowed the people to make some of their own decisions
house of burgesses The legislator while making group of Virginia people of this colony were allowed to pass their own laws with some limitations this was the first form of representative government in the new world it was one of the tiny seeds of democracy
middle passage The horrible Journey African people. We're forced to take across the Atlantic Ocean from Africa to the new world to be sold into slavery it was part of the triangle trade.
mercantilism The belief that the colonies existed to make England richer.. The navigation ax Ware laws pass that gave England control over trade with the colonies.
cash crop Any crop grown in large quantities to be sold Southern colonies like Virginia great cash crops like tobacco rice and later cotton to be sold this usually involves slavery on large farms called Plantations.
triangle trade A pattern of trade that connected the 13 colonies molasses to year up manufactured goods Africa slaves and the Caribbean molasses
french and Indian war Fought between England and France different groups of Native Americans helps both sides (the Iroquois helped the British). fought to gain the most power and land England 1 England was now the number one power in the world but spent a lot of money.
