| confederation | A group of states or countries that allows each member to govern themselves, but they work together for a common cause. |
| Articles of Confederation | The first written plan of government for the US lasting from 1781 - 1789 |
| central government | The group that has political control over the whole country |
| republic | A nation in which those who make the laws and run the government are elected by the people |
| representative | The person who speaks or acts for a group or community |
| impose | What did you set up something that needs to be followed, done, or obeyed |
| ordinance | A regulation, law, degree, or rule. Especially one issued by a city or town. |
| committee | A group of people chosen to give attention to a particular matter |
| amend | To change or add, to a law, contract, or other document |

| delegate | A person who is chosen to speak or act for others |
