Heat Transfer

TermDefinition
Conduction Transfer of heat from warmer objects to cooler objects through direct contact
Convection Transfer of heat in a fluid (liquid or gas) through currents.
Radiation Transfer of heat that is carried in electromagnetic waves
Conductor An object that easily transfers heat (example = metals)
Insulator An object that does not easily transfer heat (example = plastic)
Heat The transfer of energy from one object to another due to a different in temperature
How heat moves Always moves from warmer object to cooler object until the temperatures are equal
Molecule Movement When objects are heated, molecules move faster (more speed = more energy = higher temperature)
Gravity The force that sets convection currents in motion
