Heat Transfer
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Conduction | Transfer of heat from warmer objects to cooler objects through direct contact |
| Convection | Transfer of heat in a fluid (liquid or gas) through currents. |
| Radiation | Transfer of heat that is carried in electromagnetic waves |
| Conductor | An object that easily transfers heat (example = metals) |
| Insulator | An object that does not easily transfer heat (example = plastic) |
| Heat | The transfer of energy from one object to another due to a different in temperature |
| How heat moves | Always moves from warmer object to cooler object until the temperatures are equal |
| Molecule Movement | When objects are heated, molecules move faster (more speed = more energy = higher temperature) |
| Gravity | The force that sets convection currents in motion |
