Health Record Terms

Terms that are commonly used in patient health records

TermDefinition
malaise Not feeling well
febrile To have a fever
auscultation to listen
idiopathic no known specific cause- it just happens
sequela a problem resulting from a disease of injury
etlology the cause
morbidity the risk for being sick
palliative treating the symptoms but not getting rid of the cause
prophylaxis preventative treatment
disposition what happens at the end of a visit to reference where the patient went after the visit like home or ICU (often used in ED )
