Endocrine System

TermDefinition
Cystic Fibrosis An inherited disorder of the exocrine glands, resulting in abnormal, thick secretions of the mucus that causes COPD
Polydipsia Condition of excessive thirst
Pancreatectomy cutting out part or all of the pancreas
Parathyroidectomy cutting out the parathyroid gland
Polyphagia experiencing continuous hunger
Hyperinsulinism Oversecrection of insulin, seen in some newborns of diabetic mothers
Ketonuria The presence of ketones in the urine
Ketoacidosis excessive amount of ketone acids in the bloodstream
Type 1 Diabetes Diabetes in which the pancreas does not produce enough insulin, usually appears before the age of 30
Adrenalectomy Cutting out an adrenal gland bilaterally
Goiter enlargement of the thyroid gland that is not due to a tumor
Glycosuria The presence of glucose in the urine
Gigantism
