Drama techniques

What is a dramatist/playwright? The writer of drama
What is a theatre? A place with a stage where drama/plays are performed.
What is setting? Time and place where story happens.
What is the plot? Storyline/ sequence of events in a story that explains what happens.
What is the dialogue? Conversation in play.
What is character? People in the play.
What is a relationship? The way in which two characters are connected in a play e,g their relationship was very friendly.
What is a major role? Important role.
Minor role? Not so important role.
What are stage directions? The playwrights instructions for how the lines should be spoken.
What is the theme? Central idea.
What are plays divide into? Several acts each subdivided into smaller scenes,
What is a subplot? A secondary story running alongside the main story.
What is a monologue? A speech by one actor in a play or film
What is a soliloquy? A speech that says a aloud what the character is thinking.
What is the apron? Part of stage or full stage that juts out into the audience area.
What is the backdrop? The stage background often painted design or curtain.
What is downstage? The part I’d stage that is xlossst to audience.
What is lighting? Illumination of all or parts of the stage/ actors with electric lamps and spotlights.
What is strange right? The right side of the stage from actors point of view facing the audience.
What is stage left? The left side of the stage from actors point of view facing the audience.
What is a trap? A opening in the stage floor.
What is upstage? Area of the stage furthest away from the audience and nearest to the back wall.
What is stagecraft! Stagecraft refers to the skills that go into staging a play,e,g scenery.
