| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| what is a reference point for motion | a point that is used to determine whether motion is occurring or not |
| what is a SI unit | the distance between 2 objects |
| what is speed | a distance that a object travels in a certan amount of time |
| what is the AVERAGE speed | Average Speed: Calculate the total distance traveled by the total time. (Speed= Distance/Time) |
| what is instananiuse speed | The speed at which an object is moving at a given instant in time. |
| what is velocity | Speed in a given direction. If you know the speed and direction of an object, then you know the velocity. |
| what is graphing motion | Plotting time on the x-axis (horizontal axis), and distance on y-axis (vertical axis). |
| what is steepness | is the steepness of the line, shows how fast one variable changes in relation of the other variable. Slope= Rise/Run |
| what is power | The rate at which energy is transferred, or the amount of energy transferred in a unit of time. Power= Energy Transferred/Time |
| what is kinetic energy | The energy an object has due to its motion. |
| what is potential energy | The energy an object has because of its position, also the internal stored energy of an object, such as energy stored in chemical bonds. |
| what is gravitational potential energy | Potential energy related to an object’s height. |
| what is elastic potential energy | The energy that can be associated with object’s that can be compressed or stretched. |
| what is Mechanical Energy | The form of energy associated with the motion, position, and shape of an object. |
| what is Nuclear Energy | The energy stored in the nucleus of an atom. |
| what is Thermal Energy | The total potential and kinetic energy of the particles in an object. |
| what is Electrical Energy | The energy of electrical charges. |
| what is Electromagnetic Energy | The form of energy that travels through space in waves. |
| what is Chemical Energy | The potential energy stored in chemical bonds. |
| what are energy transformations | a change in energy from one to another. |
| what is the Law of the Conversation | Energy cannot be created or destroyed just changed from one form to another. |
