| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Counterexample | A statement or example that shows a conjecture is false. |
| Cube Root | One of three equal factors of a number. If a with the power of 3 = b, then a is the cube root of b, The cube root of 64 is 4 since 4 with the the power of 4 = 64. |
| Inverse Operations | Pairs of operations that undo each other, Addition and subtraction are inverse operations. Multiplication and division are inverse operations. |
| Irrational Number | A number that cannot be expressed as the ratio a/b, where a and b are integers and b doesn't = 0 |
| Natural Numbers | The set of numbers used for counting. |
| Perfect Cube | A number whose cube root is an integer. 27 is a perfect cube because its cube root is 3. |
| Perfect Square | A number whose square root is a whole number. 25 is a perfect square because its square root is 5. |
| Principal Square Root | The positive square root of a number. |
| Radical Sign | The symbol used to indicate a positive square root. |
| Real Number | The set of rational numbers together with the set of irrational numbers. |
| Square Root | One of the two equal factors of a number. If a^2 = b, then a is the sqaure root of b. A square root of 144 is 12 since 12^2 = 144. |
| Truncating | A process of approximating a decimal number by eliminating all decimal places past a certain point without rounding. |
