Chapter 2 Terms

Medical Terms

TermDefinition
SOAP Method An acronym that stands for the four general parts of a medical note: Subjective, Objective, Assessment, and Plan
S It is Subject to how a patient experiences and personally describes the problem as well as family medical histories.
O Objective data comprise the patient's physical exam, lab findings, and imaging studies performed at the visit.
A An Assessment could be a diagnosis, an indication of a problem, or a list of possibilities for the diagnosis.
P The provider formulates a Plan, a course of action with the assessment. It could be a treatment plan with medicine or a procedure.
Afebrile To not have a fever.
Auscultation To Listen.
Sequela A problem resulting from a disease or injury.
Etiology The cause.
Proximal Closer in to the center.
