When the earth shake

TermDefinition
Fault A fracture in bedrock , along which blocks of rock on opposite sides of fracture move.
intensity A measure of the damage done by an earthquake that is determined on basis of the earthquake's effect on people
magnitude A measure of the total amount of energy released at the focus of an earthquake.
destructive Causing damage or injury
stress The amount of force being applied to a rock or surface
tsunami A series of sea waves caused by undersea events
seismogram The record made by a seismograph
seismograph An instrument used to detect earthquake waves
tension Tension generally means a pulling force, strain, or mental/emotional stress. Its meaning varies by context:
compression Compression generally means reducing size, volume, or amount by pressing, squeezing, or
shearing to cut the hair or wool from.
