| seismograph | An instrument used to detect earthquake waves |
| tension | A pulling force along the length of a medium, like a rope or chain, exerted by forces at opposite ends. |
| compression | The process of squeezing or pushing a material inward from opposite sides, reducing its dimensions. |
| shearing | The process of squeezing or pushing a material inward from opposite sides, reducing its dimensions. |
