| autotroph | An organism that is able to capture and turn sunlight into food |
| heterotroph | An organism that cannot make its own food |
| chlorophyll | A green photsythetc pigment found in plants algee and bacteria |
| Cellular resparation | The process in which oxygen and glucose undergo a complex series of chemical reactions |
| fermentaion | The process by which cells release energy by breaking down food without using oxygen |
| cell cycle | The series of events in which the cell grows, prepares for division, and divides to form to daughter cells |
| interphase | The first stage of the cell cycle that takes place before cell division ocures |
| replication | The process by which the cell makes a copy of the DNA in its nucleus |
| cromeosome | A threadlike structure within a cells nucleus that contains DNA |
| mitosis | The second stage of the cell cycle in which a cell divides its nucleus into two nuclei and one set of DNA |
