| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Respiration | Breathing- taking in oxygen and releasing carbon dioxide |
| Feedback Mechanisms | a system where the results (output) of an action or process are sent back as new information (input) to adjust or control future actions. |
| Coevolution | When two or more species influence each other’s evolutionary |
| Atmospheric Composition | The mixture of gases that make up Earth’s atmosphere (air). |
| Photosynthetic Organisms | Living things that can make their own food using energy from the sun. |
| Biosphere | The parts of Earth where life exists that includes land, water and air. |
| Climate | The average weather conditions in a specific place (region) over a long period of time. |
| Geosphere | The solid parts of Earth, including rocks, minerals, and landforms. |
| Hydrosphere | All the water on Earth, including oceans, rivers, lakes, and groundwater. |
| Atmosphere | The layer of gases surrounding Earth that supports life and regulates temperature. |
| Feedback | A response or information you get back that helps guide future actions. Both positive and/or negative. |
| Greenhouse Gases | Gases in Earth’s atmosphere that trap heat from the sun near the planet’s surface. Keeps the Earth warm enough to support life |
| Glacial Ice | Large, flowing masses of ice formed over many years from compacted snow and ice. |
| Runoff | Water from rain or melting snow and ice that flows over the surface of the land into rivers, lakes, and oceans rather than soaking into the ground. |
| Erosion | The process by which soil and rock are worn away and transported by wind, water, or ice from one location to another |
| Ground Water | Water found underground that fills the cracks and spaces in soil, sand and rocks |
| Humidity | The amount of water vapor present in the air. |
| Radiation | Energy that moves from one place to another in a form called waves or particles, such as sunlight. |
| Environmental Factors | External elements like temperature, light, and nutrients that affect living organisms. |
| Hazard | A natural or human-made event that poses a risk to life, property, or the environment. |
| Population Size | The number of individuals of a species living in a specific area |
