Rock Cycle

TermDefinition
Rock A naturally occurring solid mixture of one or more minerals and organic matter
Weathering The process by which water, wind, ice and changes in temperature break down rock
Erosion The process by which sediment moves from one place to another
Deposition The process by which sediment comes to rest
Rock Cycle The series of processes in which rock forms, changes from one type to another, is destroyed and forms again by geologic processes
Igneous Rock Rock that forms when magma cools and solidifies
Metamorphic Rock Rock that forms from other rocks as a result of intense heat, pressure or chemical processes
Sedimentary Rock Rock that forms when older rocks get compacted and cemented together
