Plant Structures
| Term | Definition |

| root | a plant structure that usually grows into soil to support the plant and take in water and nutrients |
| leaf | a plant structure where food is usually made |
| fibrous | roots that take in water close to the surface |
| root hairs | tiny hair-like structures where water and nutrients enter the plant |
| taproot | a root that collects water and nutrients deep in the soil |
| chlorophyll | a green substance found in leaves and some other structures that captures the energy in sunlight |
| photosynthesis | the process in which plants use energy from the sunlight to make food |
| stem | a plant structure that connects the leaves to the roots |
| trunk | a thick, woody stem that supports the branches of a tree |
| vascular system | a system of tubes connecting the leaves, stems, and roots. It carries food, water, and nutrients to all parts of a plant. |
