QuestionAnswer
Harbinger A sign or warning that something is going to happen soon; something that announces the arrival of another thing.
Dirge A sad, mournful song—often played at funerals.
Ominous Giving the feeling that something bad or threatening is about to happen.
Beguile To charm or trick someone, often in a deceptive or misleading way.
Extort To get something (usually money or information) from someone by using threats or force.
Feign To pretend to feel or do something.
Cozenage Trickery; deception; cheating someone.
Fain Gladly or willingly. (Example: “I would fain help you” = “I would gladly help you.”)
Abridgement A shortened version of a written work while keeping the main ideas.
Resolution A firm decision
Buffet to strike or beat repeatedly
Bulwark A defensive wall; something that acts as strong protection or support.
Incorporeal Not having a physical body; intangible (like a ghost or idea).
Rank Having a strong, unpleasant smell; also can mean extreme or absolute (ex: “rank injustice”).
Abstinence The act of choosing not to do or have something you usually want (often applied to food, alcohol, or other habits).
Mandate An official order or instruction to do something.
Discord Conflict or disagreement; lack of harmony.
Convocation A large, formal gathering of people—often for a ceremony or announcement.
Incensed Extremely angry; enraged.
Abate To become smaller, reduce, or become weaker (like a storm, noise, or emotion)
